Laundry @ Hope Campground

After all the traveling we had a truck-load of laundry to do.
We arrived at the Hope Campground and the first thing to do was laundry!

Mt. Robson and Lac le Jeune

We were leaving Jasper today for heading back to Vancouver (a total of 800km) and we were sad to leave Canada’s vast and wild national parks.

Immediately after leaving Whistlers Campground, we noticed all the cars in front of us slowing down; There were two elks walking nonchalantly in the middle of the road! Read More

Day 2

After a copious breakfast, the steep ascent to the Notch (2’510 m) awaited us. The last part of the climb was 45-degree up, and we struggled over snowfields and gravels, while stones and gravels were falling from our footsteps. Read More

2-day Hike on Sky Line Trail, Jasper (Day 1)

Sky Line Trail, Jasper National Park – Beautiful, but very, very long!

Overall Distance: 49km / Hiking: 11h20 / Total Ascent: 1’680m / Total Descent: 2’230m / Feet in pain: 4

The Sky Line Trail is one of the most classic backcountry hikes in the Rockies. Philippe was somehow talked into this overnight hike by Yasuko. We were on the trail almost 8 hours on both days – that includes many breaks to enjoy the impressive views. It also had ups and downs too many to count. Read More

Valley of Five Lakes, Jasper National Park

Shades of Green

After hanging out at the Whistler Campground in the morning, we set for a short hike in the Valley of Five Lakes, a little outside of Jasper.

Its pristine lakes with amazingly different shades of green came into view one after another. We sat there and simply admired the view. Read More

Banff to Jasper

After spending five days in Banff, we left this stunning national park for the next one, Jasper. Today’s highlight was the road which connects two national parks: The 280km long Icefields Parkway.

On both sides of this parkway the majestic peaks of mountains continued and the parkway climbed up to 2’088m of altitude. Read More

Mega campground (1’100 sites!)

Banff National Park

Can you imagine camping at a humongous 1’100+ campsites? We couldn’t – until we did.

The Tunnel Mountain Campground in Banff is almost like a town in itself, with wide crossroads, a ring road around it, street names and districts – or so. There is even a one-and-half hour Tunnel Mountain Campground Trail, where I saw wild animals in the morning. Read More

Beautiful but sooo busy Johnston Canyon

Banff National Park

Our first destination of today was Johnston Canyon. It had narrow canyon paths and two waterfalls. The powerful water is gushing through and carving the canyon. It was beautiful and reminded us of the Doubs canyon in Switzerland, but with a lot more people… Read More

Banff Gondola

I hesitated a lot when we arrived at the parking lot in the evening and it was still like a zoo and steaming with loud tourists (we are getting more and more crowd intolerant…).

But we decided to give it a go and got on the gondola to be swept up to the summit of Sulphur Mountain (1’692m). Read More

Lake Louise

We had a rather bad idea to visit one of Canada’s most famous destinations on Canada’s national day. We left Lake Louise’s shore to walk up to Mirror Lake and Lake Agnes to visit one of two famous tea houses. Up to there, we joined a colorful human zoo. Read More
