Route: Alp Lompbach 1559m – Augstmatthorn 2137m – Suggiture – Harder Kulm 1322m11km, 700m up, 1000m down
On a sunny autumn day we went for the fantastic Brienzer ridge hike known for its trulry amazing views.
we took the Alpenbus from Interlaken to Lompbach, and arrive at the trailhead with a bunch of fellow hikers. The bus driver was kind enough to point out the freezing temperature, but made us hopeful by quoting the weather forecast for the day. Blue sky. So without hesitation, we started to walk on the still frozen path, to support the heat still within our body.
That would not have been necessary. We somewhat climbed the steep 600 m ascent on the north slope of that Augstmatthorn in about an hour and a half. The reward was stunning: magnificent views of snow-capped summits of Eiger, Mönch und Jungfrau and another few hundred peaks of the alps. The turkish blue Lake Brienz was shimmering way below us. We had a surprise appearance of a herd of around 30 ibex resting on the steep mountain slope. They did not take notice of our presence at all.
Yasuko on the top of the mountain! : ))
A nice break at the Harder Klum restaurant after a strenuous 5-hour hike.
