Gruben (1818m) – Oberems, Turtmanntal (1400m) – St. Niklaus
Today’s hike was supposed to be one of the highlights, passing Augstboardpass (2788m). However, the clouds were hanging heavily and we had zero prospect of viewing any of the mountains. There was no point of going up 1000m (!) just to be in the fog and have no view.
So while our Haute Route hiking mates were braving up the mountain, we decided to walk down the Turmanntal to enjoy a pastoral scenery. Then walked through Turtmann, a small-village feel town, and took the train to St. Niklaus.
One day I have to re-do this part of the hike!
Sankt Niklaus, a quaint village:
We toasted to each other. Tomorrow is Zermatt, our final goal!
