Hiking in Adelboden Day 1

This is our second time in Adelboden. In 2017 I was on the Via Alpina route and Philippe joined me for Kandersteg to Adelboden hike.

The path from Kandersteg to Adelboden stayed vividly in my head. The steep, rocky Bunderchrinde pass was the scariest passage ever in my whole Via Alpina route. I  wanted to head back, but I could come down to Adelboden with Philippe successfully.

We came back here again, because of the Hahnenmoss above Adelboden being a mecca for model-airplane enthusiasts all over Europe – and Philippe is one of them!

It’s shoulder season. The snow has gone just recently and none of mountain cable cars are in operation yet. Due to the corona crisis, there are only a few Swiss tourists. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere in the mountains and Philippe was happy to have the F3F slope called “Schalmy” all for himself – most of the time.

Completely new for us this time was the use of E-mountain bikes! The hotel offers free bikes, so we hopped on the opportunity to pedal up 600 m to the Hanenmosspass – almost effortlessly!

While Philippe was happily flying his model sailplanes, I walked up to Metschstand (2088m) to enjoy a view of the impressive Wildstrubel mountain chain and look down the valley leading to Lenk. I sat there a long time to reminiscence my Via Alpina hike…

Philippe had a brilliant flying day and came back with a big smile on his face. The first day ended nicely with one of the best ice creams I’ve eaten in my life!
